Ways to pay for care

Paying privately (self-funding). If your savings and assets are above the council's limits, you arrange and pay for care yourself – you choose the provider and the times.

Council-funded care. Your local council can assess your needs for free. If you're eligible and your means are below the limits, it may arrange care or contribute to the cost.

Direct payments. Instead of the council arranging care, it can pay you a direct payment so you can choose your own provider – including us.

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC). If your needs are mainly health needs, the NHS may fund your care in full after an assessment.

Attendance Allowance. A non-means-tested benefit for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care – it can help towards the cost.

For independent advice, contact your local council's adult social care team or Age UK.
